Ore-struck Home

introduction

OrestruckThere is no greater buzz known to the exploration game than making that big discovery. Many people in the industry dream of it; few will achieve it.

This is your opportunity to become one of the elite few…..Ore-Struck!

Opportunities for discovery abound in Australia’s Northern Territory - possibly the most prospective and last great under-explored region in Australia.

Over the last few years, some bold adventurers awoke to the Top End’s Secret. Of those who recognised what was on offer, a few proceeded.

Now the stakes have been raised and your adventure is set to proceed into the third-dimension, with new regional gravity surveys, 3D modelling and regional prospectivity asessment of greenfields and undercover terranes.

Welcome to Top End Secret 2 where major mineral and energy discoveries are possible and opportunity awaits to become .. Ore-Struck!

Top End Secret 2 brings you the following initiatives to support your quest for undiscovered wealth in the Territory:

  • A range of New Geoscience Programs to identify exploration opportunities in greenfields terranes and under-cover
  • Continued support to facilitate Land Access
  • Assistance in accessing Chinese Investment to advance exploration and mining projects

Good luck on seizing the opportunity to become one of the select few …Ore-Struck!

new geoscience programs

To assist explorers to make the next major mineral and petroleum discovery the NT Government has committed a further $12 million for the next 4 years (2007-2011) as part of the Bringing Forward Discovery initiative with $11 million committed to new geoscience programs by the Northern Territory Geological Survey.

Major priorities will be:

  • Detailed prospectivity analysis of greenfields terranes
  • Regional gravity surveys
  • Continued release of high-quality targeted geoscience data
  • Improved online access for industry

Targeted geoscience data acquisition and interpretation will involve 3-dimensional mapping and geochemical analysis in areas that have high potential to yield new discoveries, and with a specific focus on prospective geology that is poorly understood or buried under cover. Priority areas include Arnhem Land, the eastern Arunta Region, and the Murphy Inlier region.

A campaign of regional gravity data acquisition will be undertaken over prospective but poorly exposed terranes, to complement the Territory’s near complete coverage of magnetic and radiometric coverage. In the next 4 years over 350 000km2 of the Territory will be covered by these surveys. Companies will be invited to enter partnerships to infill or extend the surveys.

A comprehensive data package will be released on the Arunta Region, including detailed prospectivity assessments. Geophysical and geological data will be acquired and interpreted to encourage exploration of prospective Palaeoproterozoic basement beneath the shallow Dunmarra Basin and northern Wiso and Georgina Basins.

Online access to data will continue to be improved through the development of a comprehensive spatial database of mapping and exploration data and the availability of geological survey publications and historical company exploration reports for immediate download. [back to top]

land access

The Northern Territory Government continues to be pro-active in assisting explorers obtain land access in a timely fashion.

  1. Native Title processes for the grant of exploration licences continue to be streamlined through the use of the expedited procedure under the Native Title Act.
  2. Amendments to the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act provide new streamlined provisions for access to Aboriginal freehold land and an opportunity for greater involvement by the Territory.
  3. Additional support in obtaining land access is being provided with the recruitment of staff to attend on-country meetings and assist explorers.
  4. A review of the Mining Act is being progressed with the aim of developing transparent and efficient legislation for the grant of exploration and mining titles. [back to top]

chinese investment

Chinese investment is playing an increasingly important role in the Australian mining sector as China seeks to secure supplies of commodities to support its rapid industrial development.

The NT Government has in place a long term strategy to attract Chinese investment into minerals exploration and development. The strategy can assist industry by:

  1. Opening doors, identifying potential Chinese investors, business matching.
  2. Directly promoting your exploration project to Chinese investors via participation in seminars, inbound visits and NT Government delegations to China.
  3. Indirectly promoting your project via departmental referrals and the Department’s Chinese webpage which is linked to the China Chamber of Commerce Metals & Minerals website connecting you to over 3000 Chinese companies.
  4. Advice on protocol and communications support.  [back to top]
